Treating the Layers of Pain

Injury or surgery to the spine can result in pain on several layers of the back or neck t the same time. Examples of this complex pain include whip lash neck injury after a car accident and lumbar post fusion syndrome after reconstructive spine surgery. When pinched nerve pain facet. Join pain and muscle spasm pain occur . Then treatment at each layer is  often required.
A combination approach is now used to treat these and other complex conditions
          * Shooting nerve pain into the arm > epidural steroid injection
          * Lateral neck popping facet joint pain > radiofrequency treatment
          * Locked muscle spasm/torticollis > Myobloc/Botox muscle relaxer
When each of these layers are appropriately treated, the body can relax, and a physical therapy program can then effectively stretch and strengthen the injured area. This results in more rapid recovery from pain, return to work and increase in activities of daily living
